Do you have enough money for an automobile? Do not think that by signing the documentation and driving the car off the lot you are free and clear. There are various facts that you will need to think about before you can say that you can actually afford a new car. How about: car insurance, car maintenance and repairs, gas or fuel, parking meters, and registration and licensing.

What model and make of car would you like? This will require a bit of homework on your part, but the internet is full of info about cars and makes and models and such. The library is also a wealth of free information on the subject. How about asking your friends and family for their opinion?

Test and inspect the car. This is a vital component in the whole process. You want to make sure you know what you are getting…both the good and the bad. Just because the auto has a nice new splash of paint does not mean that there are not problems lurking under the hood.

What does the engine look like? Retrieve the dipstick and make sure that there are absolutely no solid pieces. Ensure that the belts and hoses do not have cracks.

Be sure to inspect the driveway. Are there any indications of leaks or spillage? It is hard to conceal automobile issues if you examine the ground that it is sitting on.

Don’t purchase the automobile at this time. You have to examine the car’s history and have a qualified mechanic inspect it in much greater detail.

Be sure to get the car inspected by a mechanic. They can uncover things that you may not have thought of. The inspection should take roughly an hour and might save you a lot of grief. Tell the mechanic what you know about the car as this can help her/him in thoroughly examining certain aspects or features. Be sure to ask them to rate the condition of the car as poor, fair, good, or excellent.

Determine the value of the vehicle. Keep in mind that the person selling the car is probably going to request more money than the car is worth. Keep in mind that the Kelley Blue Book is a great starting point to find a dollar value that you can utilize as a beginning point for your further negotiations.

Negotiate a price for the car. Show the person selling the vehicle the research you have and why you think the vehicle is worth the price you are offering. You might like to bring a friend to assist you in coming up with a non-emotional price.

Purchase the automobile. Be sure that you get the sale of the auto in writing. Double check to be sure that this piece of paper includes all that is being sold, and the actual terms of the sale. Under no circumstances should you purchase the vehicle or put any money down without having the actual title of the automobile signed over to you the new owner. This is the document that shows you actually own the vehicle.

That’s it…some very simple ideas to purchasing a new car. With a bit of homework by you there is really no reason that you cannot come out of the process a pleased new auto owner. Happy motoring!
